Description

On the Glaubenslehre: Two Letters to Dr. Lucke represents Friedrich Schleiermacher's apologia for his dogmatic theology. The first edition of his The Christian Faith had sold out within a few years after its publication in 1821-22. Rather than clutter a new edition with defenses and refutation, Schleiermacher chose to argue his case in the two letters written to his firend Friedrich Lucke which are translated in this volume. The letters reveal how he viewed the reception of The Christian Faith and serve as an introduction to the differences between its two editions. Many misread concepts are clarified and background to those concerns that shaped his dogmatics are brought to light.
