内容説明

We hardly think about them, but we use them every day. We play, work, fly, eat, build with them. Composites can be found literally everywhere: skis, surfboards, motor helmets, canoes, race bikes. But also the Formula 1-world, the car- and motor-industry in general, space travel and aircraft construction, the building industry, the army and the medical world can't do without it. However, the creation and development of composites are hardly known. The book "From Bakelite to Composite: Design in New Materials" aims to change this and presents the history of the composites, the types, the processing techniques and the applications in design and styling of all kinds of consumption goods. More than 200 illustrations show how strong, durable and light composites are, how they get their forms and who does this. The texts are thoroughly illustrated with recent, concrete examples of the world of design furniture, lighting, sports, car, industry, but also art: Panamarenko, Tony Gragg, Niki de Saint-Phalle. This book is in co-operation with the Design Museum, Ghent.
