内容説明

Traumatic injury is a leading cause of death and disability throughout the world and is likely to remain so in future years, particularly as road traffic increases. Trauma, Repair and Recovery introduces the science of how the human body responds to trauma. The incidence of traumatic injury at a global level is considered, before using case studies to illustrate the nature of damage and repair and its impact on the people affected. In particular this book focuses on the tissue-level biology of the human body, comparing and contrasting how different tissues are structured, and how they interact with each other during normal physiology. An understanding of this will allow the physical events following a traumatic injury to be illustrated in terms of the repair processes occurring within the body. Case studies follow patients through the course of diagnosis and assessment of damage, to treatment and long-term recovery. Trauma can be mental as well as physical: occasionally the psychological harm is long-lasting, and for some people may be more disabling than the physical injury. The book explores the mechanisms that give rise to these distressing symptoms, and describes the treatments available. Trauma, Repair and Recovery is accompanied by fully interactive DVD, which features a combination of video, photo, animation and graphics. Topics covered include 'Emergency care in traumatic injury', featuring footage from paramedic training; 'The functional anatomy of the leg', 'Tissue repair following trauma', and 'The long term effects of trauma'. The Online Resource Centre features: For lecturers who are registered adopters of the book: - Figures from the book in electronic format, available to download For students: - Access to ROUTES, a searchable internet database of online resources compiled by academic staff and subject-specialist librarians.
