This selection of his letters has been compiled from various sources, including the Romain Rolland archive at the Biblioteque Nationale, and includes many which are published here for the first time. Letters to such eminent figures as Tagore, Gandhi, Nehru, Tolstoy, Schweitzer, and Freud are represented in this expression of Rolland's intellectual development and thought."
