Description
This volume publishes the results of surveys carried out in the Samsun region between 2001-03, to analyse the unusual wooden mosques of which 26 were identified and present a catalogue and typology. The mosques date from the twelfth century AD to the second quarter of the twentieth century, but a wooden building tradition in the Black Sea area dates back to the Late Chalcolithic. A closing section evaluates their architecture, geographical spread, chronology and present condition.
