Description and Table of Contents
Description
This book offers a comprehensive and superbly illustrated overview of the work of American sculptor Harriet Hosmer. "Harriet Hosmer: Lost & Found" will be on display in the Brooklyn Museum, New York, between June 2009 and January 2010. Contemporary artist Patricia Cronin has compiled a catalogue raisonne of the works of American sculptor Harriet Hosmer (1830-1908). In 1852, Hosmer moved to Rome to live among a community of British and American artists, writers, scholars, and 'independent women'. During this time - drawing inspiration from her schooling in anatomy back in America - she carved out a career as a sculptor, earning critical and popular acclaim. This superbly illustrated volume combines stunning hand-painted images with meticulous research to create an insightful and comprehensive exploration of the complexities of Hosmer's career, reputation, and legacy.
