Description
This book "Legal Deposit and Bibliographical Control in India", presents briefly the concept of legal deposit and bibliographical control and traces book publishing in India and number of books published annually and emergence of the legal deposit and bibliographical control of Indian Publications. It also deals with the working of Press and Registration of Books Act, 1867 in the States of India with special reference to Southern States. The receipt of books at the National Library and the three designated depository libraries at New Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai and with focus on Southern States of India under the provisions of Delivery of Books and Newspapers (Public Libraries) Act, 1954 and the coverage of such publications by Indian National Bibliography was also presented succinctly. For the first time an in-depth study has been made on the state of legal deposit and bibliographical control in India by collecting relevant data. The various tables provided in the book will throw more light on the present scenario of annual book production in various languages of India and the coverage of subject fields.
It is hoped that the present publication will serve as one of the basic sources of information on the subject and go a long way in meeting the information requirements of those interested in legal deposit and bibliographical control in India.
