Description and Table of Contents

Description

This volume provides an overview of the churches of Nobadia the most northerly of the three medieval Nubian kingdoms. The majority of the work comprises descriptions of the churches, along with plans and notes on materials, construction, fixtures and excavation, divided into three chronological periods - early (550-850), Classic (850-1100) and Late and Terminal (1100-1500). Other sections provide an overview of the architecture, including discussion of changes and developments, as well as more brief summaries of architecture in the other two Nubian kingdoms.
