Sancta Civitas by Ralph Vaughan Williams, for SATB semi-chorus, SATB choir, distant choir of boy's vocals with piano reduction. With a text from Revelations, this oratorio is an awesome musical vision of the fall of Babylon and the new heaven and earth - apocalyptic, incandescent and of an intensity unique in the composer's entire output. His personal favourite among all his choral works, it still packs a powerful punch today.
