Description
This manual has the following objectives: to present an overview of the ASEAN environmental scenario; to provide concepts about environmental communication; to discuss women and their relationship with the environment, what they can do to conserve it and how they can do so; to teach the different steps of communication planning; to train women communicators to prepare and produce media resources, namely: low-cost print materials, community radio broadcasts, small-format video programmes and community theatre. This manual resulted from the Workshop on Capacity Building of Women Communicators to Promote Environmental Awareness and Conservation sponsored by the Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC) in Bangkok, Thailand from November 5 to 9, 2001. The workshop brought together media practitioners, representatives from grassroots women's organisations and researchers from seven Asian countries: Cambodia, Lao, PDR, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
Although, this manual is far from comprehensive and has been produced with ASEAN women communicators in mind, the lessons inside will be useful for both men and women everywhere who take their role as advocates and stewards of the environment seriously.
