Description
This book, ""Public Service Broadcasting in the Age of Globalization"", was inspired by a project AMIC conducted for UNESCO in 2004-05 on Good Practices in Public Service Broadcasting. In the course of researching and compiling material for that book, we welcomed submissions from PSB experts and research scholars from around the world, many of whom were also critically appreciative of public service broadcasting. While our earlier work was a good practices sourcebook to encourage public broadcasters to learn from positive experiences in other parts of the world, and perhaps adopt some of these into their own work and management structures, this book takes a more scholarly perspective aimed at creating debate about the role and function of public service broadcasting at a time that it is facing a variety of threats, not only from governments, but more so from commercialization of broadcasting. In this book, case studies and experiences of twelve countries are covered, giving a global perspective on the state of public service broadcasting in the age of globalization. ""Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC)"" series is available exclusively from ISEAS for worldwide distribution.
