Previous editions of "The Record" have chronicled the history of the Royal Society up to 1940; the Supplement extends the vast compendium of information to very recent times. The increasing tempo of scientific affairs has meant that the past 50 years have been particularly eventful, and the Society's former Librarian, Norman Robinson and Professor John Rowlinson have therefore had an onerous but interesting task in producing the Supplement, covering the years 1940-1989.
