Description

Published in association with an exhibition organized by the Maison de l'Amerique Latine, Paris, this book brings together a selection of outstanding modern and contemporary works by Latin American artists, along with works of famous artists from Europe and North America, such as Alexander Calder, Marcel Duchamp, Sottsass Associati, Jean Tinguely, and Victor Vasarely. Taking their cue from the works of famous artists, Latin American painters and sculptors have managed to create an entirely original abstract style and new trends. The book is divided into five major categories: New Realist and geometric abstraction of the 1940s and 1950s; Optical and Kinetic art from the 1950s and 1970s; contemporary works that range from the 1970s to the present day, divided into: abstract art, architectural projects, and new technologies. Further to well-known artists like Leon Ferrari, Tomas Maldonado, Joaquin Torres-Garcia, there are established or young emerging artists, representing the vanguard of digital art, video and other special effects: Carmelo Arden Quin, Juan Bay, Alberto Biasi, Paolo Campochiaro, Giancarlo Caporicci, Blas Castagna, Miguel Chevalier, Maria Silvia Corcuera, Franco Costalonga, Jose Pedro Costigliolo, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Juan Pedro Delmonte, Hugo Demarco, Gonzalo Fonseca, Bolivar Gaudin, Antonio Llorens, Juan Mele, Aurelie Nemours, Roger Neyrat, Matilde Perez, Dario Perez-Flores, Augusto Torres, Gregorio Vardanega, Grazia Varisco, Ramon Vergara Grez, Angel Vidal. Featuring 178 attentively selected works of art, this lavish volume offers a new look at Latin American art, and also serves as a reference on Abstract, Minimalist, Geometric, Optical, and Kinetic art.
