Description
In all countries, the elderly are becoming an increasingly large sector of the population, and active social measures are needed to guarantee the security, care, and service they need for an active and healthy old age. This final volume of the Society, Stress, and Disease series examines the research into the mental and physical effects of old age, and the medical and social measures being taken to lessen their impact. It looks at the effects of work, retirement, and illness, and studies different communities in the US, rural France, Africa, the Soviet Union, and elsewhere to discover how social and family structures affect the well-being of the elderly. The contributors are a distinguished international team of doctors, scientists and administrators.
