Infection prevention and control continues to be a point of concern in health care. Because of their proximity to patients and their pivotal role in health care delivery, nurses are in a unique position to make strides in and enforce infection control practices. Nurses traditionally provide front line care and have daily contact with patients, fulfilling vital services such as inserting and changing IVs, administering medications, interacting with the patients and their families, and monitoring and maintaining patient hygiene, to name a few responsibilities.
This book examines the nurse's role in ensuring that patients, their families, other staff, and the public are protected from infections and includes: Infection prevention and control education and training methods for nurses in Hospitals, Ambulatory Care, Office-Based Surgery, Long Term Care, Behavioral Health Care, and Home Care Successful techniques and tools for incorporating, implementing, and sustaining infection control practices Approaches for collaborating with other disciplines to ensure proper infection prevention and control practices Strategies for educating patients and their families Practices for monitoring and reporting incidents at the staff and clinical levels Effective methods for infection prevention and control practices in critical areas and settings
