Description and Table of Contents

Description

Many epithets have been used to describe the relationship between Gandhi and Nehru-mentor and pupil, leader and successor, traditionalist and socialist-but none can do justice to the rich and vibrant exchange of views they had. Edited by Uma Iyenger and Lalitha Zachariah, this volume includes nearly 500 letters, telegrams, messages, and notes exchanged between Gandhi and Nehru between 1921 and 1948. Chronologically arranged, each entry (with source, date, and place) is accompanied by detailed notes specially prepared for this volume. The volume also includes appendices on Gandhi's talks with Jinnah, the draft deed of Swaraj Bhawan Trust, among others. With a comprehensive introduction by the editors, Together They Fought takes us on a journey through the political arena of a nation in the pangs of birth and into the inner workings of two of the most brilliant minds the twentieth century witnessed.
