This work provides extensive critical analysis of Orhan Pamuk's work. The contributors establish Pamuk as a universal author whose contributions to the genre of novel have not only enriched our understanding of modern Turkish literature, but have generated discussions on national identity. Turkish author Orhan Pamuk is the winner of 2006 Nobel Prize in Literature. His novels have been translated into several languages. However lack of extensive critical analysis about much of Pamuk's work renders Nilgun Anadolu-Okur's edited volume a significant contribution to the development of research and scholarship in comparative literature. Using close textual analysis, the contributors to this international volume of critical essays cover the full range of Pamuk's fictional output, including an overview of his themes, plots and characters. The editor's introduction reveals a centered analysis of the author's perspective on historical consciousness, as it recaps the impact of past socio-political events upon his narration of contemporary stories.
