Description

This exceptional book brings together a collection of more than 500 drawings dating from the 1960s by the renowned American film director, David Lynch. His artwork was first unveiled to the general public in March 2007 by the Foundation Cartier pour lart contemporain in Paris. Sketches, watercolours, or simple doodles, this vast collection carefully conserved by David Lynch since his adolescence and regularly used by him as a source of inspiration offers a unique glimpse into the artists creative process. Using all types of media, from Post-it notes to napkins, the diverse and complementary nature of these drawings allows us to dive into David Lynchs universe and establish links between his artwork and his films. This exceptional book, both in terms of its format and the quality of reproduction of the works, is a co-publication between the Foundation Cartier pour lart contemporain and Steidl. David Lynch, born in Montana in 1946, spent his childhood drawing and painting. In 1965, he went to study at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, where he discovered a passion for moving images and made his first experimental short film. He is now among the worlds most talented directors, receiving a Golden Lion in 2006 to honour his career. Throughout his life, David Lynch has never stopped painting, drawing, photographing, and making animated films. He has even broadened his artistic practice to include animation, music composition, and sound production.
