Summary: 1926, in a Parisian bistro, Franz Tunda tells of his past, his love, Irene, his imprisonment during the war by the Russians, his escape and flight from Siberia, involvement in the Bolshevik revolution as a commander in the red army and then as functionary in Moscow, where he fell in love with a Russian woman. He tells of finally traveling back to Austria and Paris to find Irene, and of all the difficulties in his attempt to return home
