A detailed investigation into the Neolithisation of the inhabitants of the Gunung Sewu ('Thousand Hills') area of the Indonesian island of Java. Through pollen analysis, charcoal analysis and phytolith analysis of remains from three swamps, Chacornac-Rault attempts a reconstruction of the prehistoric climate and ecology of the area, looking especially at evidence for plant exploitation and cultivation.
