Description
While migration promises many opportunities, there are undoubtedly many risks involved for destination countries, origin communities, and migrants, who can be particularly vulnerable to human rights abuses. To safeguard the well-being of the estimated 115 million migrants living in member countries of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), setting and implementing effective national migration policies and practices is essential. This book provides a comprehensive review of the OSCE Commitments on migration. Adopted over a period of 35 years, these commitments focus on the protection of migrant workers, on maximizing the benefits of migration while mitigating its negative impacts, and on encouraging bilateral and multilateral cooperation. This book highlights the development of the OSCE Commitments and provides a critical analysis of the measures taken to implement them.
