内容説明

In recent years, new technology and new industries, and a more responsive approach to the needs of employees have transformed the workplace worldwide. This study traces the main trends in contemporary office architecture and design through projects as diverse and far-flung as the new offices for the "Western Morning News" in Plymouth, the Bank of China in Hong Kong and the headquarters of the Playboy Entertainment Group in Los Angeles. The 56 offices featured range from the "lofts" favoured by creative companies in search of dynamic and highly individual premises, to the high-tech interiors for communications-based companies or the imposing, status-conscious architecture of banks and financial centres. Innovative, imposing, and in some cases outrageous, the projects were designed and built by acclaimed architects and interior designers, including Frank O Gehry, Jean Nouvel, Norman Foster, Michael Graves, Philippe Starck and Arata Isozaki. They are illustrated here by colour photographs, plans and drawings. A comprehensive reference section makes this both a highly informative and entertaining survey. Otto Riewoldt, former editor of the German design magazine "Ambiente", is a freelance journalist and an architecture and design consultant for various European companies.
