Description
"The most in incredible street in the world", a description used at the opening of the Zeilgalerie, is neither a department store nor a shopping mall. A space has been created on the Zeil in Frankfurt that is unique in the history of commerce and the city. This complex conceived by architect Ruediger Kramm is devoted to the movement of light and colour. Numerous groups of lamps and movable colour filters with computer-controlled external sensors draw and model the surroundings in constantly changing patterns. The architect's unconventional concept offers an overwhelming exeprience in terms of perspective, light and space: 650 metres of window shopping in a vertical passage with arcade-like corridors, like Saint Elia's vision of space. This book analyzes the emergence of a building that is intended not just to display and sell goods, but also uses lively and colourful architecture to produce a cultural experience.
