Description and Table of Contents

Description

The Khoan and Michael Sullivan collection of modern Chinese painting began in Sichuan in western China in the 1940s, and has developed over the course of more than half a century to include paintings by the principal artists of late twentieth century China, as well as more recent works by a new generation. Many of the works presented in this complete catalogue of their collection were given to Khoan and Michael Sullivan by the artists themselves, so that this is at once a work of scholarship and a personal account. The collection, which is illustrated virtually in its entirety, includes over 170 paintings and drawings, including hanging scrolls and works on paper; album leaves and woodcuts. Professor Michael Sullivan has taught at the Universities of Stanford and Oxford, and is the author of many books on Chinese painting.
