The first Burmese diplomatic mission to London in 1872, following the Second Burmese War, was led by Kinwun Min-gyi. He conveyed Burma's rich culture and furthered Burmese understanding of the West. This is his record of the journey and his observations of Western cities, technology and mores. Following the Second Burmese War, British forces occupied approximately half of the Burmese Kingdom, as far east as the Irrawadi Valley. Kinwun Min-gyi (Minister Kinwun') was a voice of moderation in the clamour of opinion in the Burmese court as to how to deal with the British'
