This book contains the history of Fort Miller, California from its founding in 1851 through the Civil War. This study of a little-known California fort includes a discussion of the California Indian Treaties and the relations between whites and Indians in the gold regions of the San Joaquin Valley of California. Also discussed is the role Fort Miller played in controlling Southern sympathizers during the Civil War years.
