Description

Bound for Exile by Mordechai Cogan, the newly translated companion volume of The Raging Torrent, presents a collection of Assyrian and Babylonian cuneiform texts that relate to the Israelites and Judeans living under the yoke of these great Mesopotamian empires during the 8th-6th centuries BCE. In the past, little was known about the life led by the exiles abroad. But now, through these ancient texts, we can learn more about the masses of Israelites and Judeans deported to distant parts of the ancient Near East. All the texts in Bound for Exile have been newly translated into English from the most recent editions of the original documents. They are introduced by concise historical surveys, and a consecutive commentary and select bibliography accompany each selection. Maps and photographs provide additional accessibility to the sources.
