内容説明
Through their art and monuments the ancient Egyptians presented themselves as they would like to be remembered. Mostly their art tells the story of men, especially rich and powerful leaders, But a more careful investigation shows also how women spent their lives, working in groups, weaving, baking, and keeping the family group together. Other women became entertainers, managers or priestesses, living outside the family group, holding positions of responsibility. And just a few names have come down to us of women who defied tradition and briefly ruled one of the greatest of the ancient civilizations. In this book quotes from pieces of writing, ancient artefacts and case studies reveal the important roles that some women played in the history of Ancient Egypt. A few like Queen Nefertiti and Cleopatra, changed the course of history.
