Text in Persian. Hassanali Mehran, who headed the Central Bank of Iran for more than two years, describes the goals and the policies of the bank from its founding in 1960 until the 1979 revolution. Based on his own experience as governor of the bank and drawing on personal interviews with other governors; senior bank officials; ministers and other government officials, he relates the role the bank played in the economic development of Iran. The banks history, monetary policy, price stability, exchange policies, bank supervision and the central banks role as banker to the government are covered.
