'Brigitte Carnochan's is a life-affirming imagery reminiscent of Baudelaire's nineteenth century Parisian floating world'. - John Wood The Japanese subject matter of photographer Brigitte Carnochan's new work is the ideal backdrop for the complementary poems, all written by women, that synchronise with her lightly tinted colour photographs. While her distinct visions are personal, Carnochan successfully renders the universal in her photographs. Carnochan is most well known for her contemporary photography; sensuality, beauty, and craftsmanship characterise her body of work. She embarks on the task of depicting the ubiquitous subject of the nude to "present an essential portrait of femininity, a portrait more essential than I can recall in any other photographer's work," according to John Wood in his introductory essay.
