内容説明

Closer to You is a collection of 150 portraits by Dutch artist Jasper Krabbe. Every portrait is of his wife, and each is influenced by a different period in the history of art. The work of Jasper Krabbe often reflects memories of places, events and persons. Not as clear images, but in a way memories usually appear: disrupted by other images, incomplete, without logic and never unambiguous. Krabbe's process of painting is not linear towards a certain end; it's rather a sublimation of recollected images. In his works on paper he often uses materials he finds along his way: envelopes, wrapping paper, pages out of books and encyclopaedias. With this approach he mingles the original function and meaning of the material with his own personal images. Jasper Krabbe studied painting and printmaking at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and the Cooper Union in New York. He graduated cum laude in 1992. AUTHOR: Jonathan Turner is a Sydney-born, Rome-based art critic, writer and award-winning independent curator. He is a long-term correspondent for ARTnews in New York, Tableau in Amsterdam and genius-online in Trieste, and has written numerous monographs and articles about contemporary artists. For more than two decades, Turner has been following the career of Jasper Krabbe, and has helped in the organisation of different shows by the artist in Italy, the Netherlands and the USA, as well as such publications as Krabbe's book of 100 self-portraits in 2007. Pietje Tegenbosch is art historian and art critic. She has published criticisms and contemplative texts for Dutch newspapers and magazines like de Volkskrant, het Parool, MuseumTijdschrift, and various national and international magazines and catalogues. Tegenbosch was President of the jury of the Dutch Royal Prize for painting and was a member of several other juries.
