Description

Common Core Mathematics is the most comprehensive Common Core State Standards-based mathematics curriculum available today. The modules are sequenced and paced to support the teaching of mathematics as an unfolding story that follows the logic of mathematics itself. They embody the instructional shifts and the standards for mathematical practice that are fundamental to the CCSS. Each module contains a sequence of lessons that combine conceptual understanding, fluency, and application to meet the demands of each topic in the module. Formative assessments are included to support data-driven instruction. The modules are written by teams of master teachers and mathematicians. With Common Core Mathematics, sixth graders learn about: connecting ratio and rate to whole number multiplication and division and using concepts of ratio and rate to solve problems; completing understanding of division of fractions and extending the notion of number to the system of rational numbers, which includes negative numbers; writing, interpreting, and using expressions and equations; solving for unknowns in area, surface area, and volume problems; and developing understanding of statistical thinking. Common Core Learning Standards Addressed in Grade 6, Module 1: 6.RP.1, 6.RP.2, 6.RP.3. SEQUENCE OF GRADE 6 MODULES: Module 1: Ratios and Unit Rates; Module 2: Arithmetic Operations Including Division of Fractions; Module 3: Rational Numbers; Module 4: Expressions and Equations; Module 5: Area, Surface Area, and Volume Problems; and, Module 6: Statistics. Common Core is a non-profit organization formed in 2007 to advocate for a content-rich liberal arts education in America's K-12 schools. To improve education in America, Common Core creates curriculum materials and also promotes programs, policies, and initiatives at the local, state, and federal levels that provide students with challenging, rigorous instruction in the full range of liberal arts and sciences. Common Core is not affiliated with the Common Core State Standards Initiative.
