This illustrated work presents new interpretations of the foundation, design and building history of Salisbury Cathedral. Two self-contained essays by Dr Thomas Cocke and Professor Peter Kidson outline the history of the building and provide new perspectives on basic questions of its design, from the problems surrounding the move from Old Sarum to the system of proportion that underlies the appearance of the finished building. New plans and photographs bring to life these studies. "Salisbury Cathedral - Perspectives on the Architectural History" is the first of three volumes in this new series.
