"For the narrative of the story as a whole, that is for the English text originally published in 1984, we used the version of the Manṭiq al-ṭayr (Conference of the birds) edited by Dr Sadaq Gouharin (Tehran, 1978). Since this time, a number of critical editions of the poem have appeared, and for the translation of the Prologue and Epilogue we have used the text edited by Dr Mohammad-Reza Shafi'i Kadkani (Tehran, 2004)"--A note on the translation (p.
