"The manuscript (Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde, Vienna) bears the inscription: 50 Ferma / a / Flauto / M.F. Hofmeister. This could refer to either of two composers whose names are close in spelling: Franz Anton Hoffmeister (1745-1812) and Friedrich Hofmeister (1782-1864). In the absence of any deciding factor we have prefer[r]ed simply to indicate the annotation found on the manuscript"--editorial notes (P. [19])
