内容説明

This is a multi disciplinary reappraisal of the Iraq war and its ongoing difficult legacy. This edited collection reappraises Iraq 10 years on from a multi disciplinary perspective. One of the often stated aims of the war was to 're create' Iraq as a democratic, peaceful and prosperous Western ally that would serve as a beacon of progress in the region. However, the reality is that, while some measurable progress and positive steps have been made, this project has been overwhelmingly unsuccessful. This is the first book to dissect the diverse consequences of the Iraq war and provide new insights into the reasons why the country has descended into its current chaos. It is a collection of critical essays from a group of international contributors. It looks at wider contexts such as democracy in the Middle East, foreign intervention in the region, sectarian politics, sectarian violence, the rise of Islamic fundamentalism and terrorist organisations.
