The Khoja of Tanzania, Discontinuities of a Postcolonial Religious Identity is a multidisciplinary diachronic study of the historical development of Khoja religious identity in Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam over two centuries, from an Indic Hindu-Muslim caste (jnati) to an Afro-Asian Muslim community (jamati) towards a Near Eastern imaged Islamic nation (ummati).
