Description
Anthony Cragg (*1949) is one of the most important international sculptors of the present day. The British artist, who lives in Wuppertal, was Rector of the Academy of Art in Dusseldorf until 2013 and has won many awards. From the beginning his creative work has found inspiration in Nature as a model. Cragg's large - format sculptures of metal, marble, wood and glass are derived from organic natural shapes and present a fascinating aesthetic. In the foreground is the material as the sculpture's strongest means of expressi on. In the time - consuming development processes during which the work is formed and the material and surface are treated, Cragg's sculptures literally "grow" into the space, so that they have an almost intrinsic character or with their convolutions and pro tuberances evoke endlessly growing structures. This volume documents new works as well as specimens from the sculptor's collection of fossils and minerals for the first time - a remarkable premiere
