内容説明

In this pamphlet, Sally Keeble asks: do women have a "right" to have children? What limits should be placed on scientific reseach into infertility treatments? Should provision be available on the NHS? She argues that the traditional feminist alliance with arch-conservative opponents of new reproductive technologies is misguided, denying women a basic choice about their lives. Contrasting the history of feminist attitudes to contraception and abortion, Keeble proposes that freedom for women is the ability to say "yes", as well as "no", to having children. Further, she argues that the ethical dilemmas posed by the possibilities of scientific developments raise issues of fundamental importance to society, such as the role of the family, parenting duties and the purpose of the welfare state.
