Love and Courage tells the story of the authors life, a life of real commitment and often insubordination to the powers that be. It provides too the "inside story" of her part in some of the controversial debates within the ANC on issues like the arms deal and HIV/AIDS. In this way she develops her own thoughts on how power ought to be exercised and from where the true sources of lasting power derive. For those many who are increasingly disenchanted with the use of power by those in positions of authority to garner influence and wealth, to promote their individual interests instead of those of the people who have elected them, and to bully, manipulate and coerce others, the author offers a refreshing vision and example of true power based on love and courage. Instead of the often unappetising choices presented to us by politicians, she shows what richer ways and opportunities there are for us to live our lives in South Africa.
