内容説明
Poems on experience of war, love, integrity in suffering, and the problems of belief. They vary from vivid evocations of events and complex speculations, rich in historical and literary allusion, to short poems and brief sardoniccomments on everyday matters. In addition there are some medieval transpositions and sections on the ancient stories of love, war and death of Troilus and Criseyde, and the Arthurian legend. A number of the poems were written forthe Seatonian prize, the annual competition at the University of Cambridge open to all MAs on a set topic for `a poem on a sacred subject' and `recommending virtue': over half of those submitted (in anonymity) either won the prize, or were runners-up.
