In the overall field of peace studies, the many contributions of various African Americans to the American peace movement since the beginning of this century have been neglected, leaving even this critical field within the standard view of what and who comprise the political and intellectual life of this country. This edited collection brings a new perspective that should serve to broaden that view with regard to the American peace movement. It documents many of the significant initiatives and statements of African American leaders that should be known by all American citizens.
