Description
Ten critically-acclaimed art photographers -- Todd Eberle, Noritoshi Hirakawa, Inez van Lamsveerde & Vinood Matadin, Glenn Ligon, Sharon Lockhart, Catherine Opie, Paul Seawright, Beat Streuli, Wolfgang Tillmans, and Gillian Wearing -- were commissioned by BMW to produce new works. The participating artists traveled to many areas of the world to research, document, and create new artworks in response to BMW's design, manufacturing, and distribution operations. From Sharon Lockhart's comparison of assembly line workers who perform the same task in different parts of the world, to Wolfgang Tillman's reflection on polished car surfaces, to Beat Streuli's observation of how pedestrians interact with automobiles. AutoWerke offers an imaginative look into the world of BMW, while also reflecting upon the social and cultural influence of the automaker's important presence in the world market. This exquisitely printed book is an expression of contemporary photography at its best.
