Description

AutoWerke II is a commissioned photographic project using 'automobile' as its theme. Ten European artists of international renown were invited to create new, original contributions on the topic, using film or photography. The project was commissioned by BMW Bank, and it was made possible to a large degree by BMW opening its gates to the artists. Its outcome consists of highly individual works offering a cross-section of contemporary photography; powerful artistic visions that range from Thomas Demand's abstracting spatial aesthetics to the concrete critical approach of Ursula Rogg. The works present fascinating insights into a whole range of different contexts related to the automobile as a (dream) object. They show the people who create the automobiles, the production sites and, again and again, the mobility gained in its various cultural and aesthetic dimensions.
