Brewed in the Traditional Manner is the story of the Hook Norton Brewery Company and has been drawn from the archives of the company, academic works, newspaper articles and the recollections of villagers; tracing the Company's development from its humble beginnings in the mid-nineteenth century to the present day. The book looks at both the high and low points of the Brewery's past and explains how the development of the Hook Norton Brewery did not follow the typical pattern of brewery development during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The book is set against the backdrop of the wider world of the brewing industry and is the first fully researched social and business account of the Hook Norton Brewery's past, providing base-line history of the company and giving an insight into the running of a rural business.
