Summary: "This volume has been conceived to explore two important aspects of human existence: humour and self-translation, a virtually unexplored area of research in both Humour Studies and Translation Studies. A variety of international scholars has contributed to this volume by examining literary texts from several standpoints (e.g., sociological, philosophical, post-colonial, etc.) while others have examined this practice in contexts that are traditionally not associated with it, such as stand-up comedy and language learning. This book sheds light on how humour in self-translation can encourage reflection on social issues, challenge stereotypes, contribute to recast individuals in novel forms of identity, facilitate our reflection on our own sense of humour, and so forth. The book is accessible and engaging and can be of interest to advanced students and researchers in Translation Studies and Humour Studies"-- Provided by publisher
