内容説明
A study on ageing among black and Asian people in Britain. Until now, debates on race relations have tended to ignore the "greying" of Britain's minority communities. Equally, ageing studies have lacked a focus on the challenging realities of a multiracial society and of racial discrimination. In this wide-ranging and questioning book, the authors combine original research with the results of over a decade of community studies of age and race. They give a comprehensive overview of the British context of "minority ageing", comparing it with that of other societies such as the USA and Australia.
They show the range and variety of patterns of ageing in the Asian and Afro-Caribbean communities, illustrated by personal life histories, and there are substantial chapters on the challenges to be faced by the health and social services. This book should be of interest to, "reflective practitioners" and anyone concerned with new developments in the fields of ageing, race relations, sociology and social policy.
