Summary:"This book introduces the basic concepts and methods of epidemiology, which is the core science of public health. Epidemiology has been defined as "the study of the distribution and determinants of disease frequency,"1 or more simply as "the study of disease occurrence."2 Until recently, epidemiology was a comparatively obscure discipline. A running joke among epidemiologists was that epidemiology was often mistaken to be the branch of clinical medicine dealing with skin disease (which is actually dermatology). However, since the pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, epidemiology has become widely recognized as a key scientific discipline involved in understanding and controlling the occurrence of disease"-- Provided by publisher
