Description and Table of Contents

Description

This Social Services Inspectorate report provides guidance to local authorities on the setting up of local inspection units. It highlights the key issues to be resolved in the initial construction and development of units and provides examples of approaches taken so far by a range of social services departments. Inspection units need clear policies and standards, and this report makes recommendations to ensure that these are achieved. It should be read in conjuction with another title in this series, "Community Care in the Next Decade and Beyond", which describes what authorities need to do; this report is designed to help authorities decide how best to implement the changes locally.
