Opened in 1970, Ferrard House is a purpose built statutory home for severely mentally infirm people. By 1987 it was being noted for its "sophisticated and carefully structured programme of group therapy, individual support and goal planning combined with a quite exceptional in-service staff training programme and commitment to family involvement in care". In this book Faith Gibson describes the environment, ethos and experience of Ferrard residents.
